Upward Dog

I caught Joshua practicing his yoga today.  He is a pro at Upward Dog!

This pose made me laugh because he looks exactly like Andrew when we tried to do yoga awhile back...

Sweet Potatoes

To say that our kid loves to eat would be a huge understatement:

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Thanks to Great-Grandma Padilla, Joshua has a little bit of Irish in him.  Who wouldn't want to kiss this face!

Mama's Boy

Andrew speaking here... So, Amanda gave me the ability to post to the blog as well, though I am sure she will be blogging more consistently than I will. Nonetheless, I thought I'd give it a go...

Lately, as Joshua is seemingly beginning to understand a little more of what we are saying to him, Amanda and I have begun to do what every parent does: try to coerce their child into saying their name (i.e. "mama", or "dada") first! Through this "game" (the two of us have to turn everything into a competition, right?), it has become quite apparent that Joshua is destined to be a huge Mama's Boy. When Amanda looks at him and says "mama" he responds with a huge smile. What happens when I look at him and say "dada" you may ask? Nothing but a blank stare.

And yet, despite all of this, I think we have both agreed (as evidenced by Amanda's previous post) that his first word will probably be "Ally". But we can try, right?

This video shows you why Joshua and Ally are best buds.  Joshua has a constant companion, and Ally, well...

Another tooth!

Joshua's second tooth cut through over the weekend!  While teething is no fun for him (or Mom and Dad), it is pretty cute to see his new little smile:

We also introduced Joshua to March Madness this weekend (a Grundstrom favorite!).  Joshua cozied up with Dad during the Lobos' heartbreaker to BYU...

Six Months Old

Joshua is six months old today!  I know I say this in every update, but where did the time go?  Our blue-eyed baby boy is not so little anymore.  He has quite the smiley personality, and everyone we come in contact with remarks on how happy of a baby he is.  I can't tell you how awesome it is to wake up to this little guy each morning.  I truly have the best job in the world, and even though it doesn't come with a paycheck, the smiles and love I get from him are so much better than monetary compensation.

Here's what's new with Jumpin' JAG...

*We have our first tooth!!!  It seems like Joshua has been teething for months, without any reward to show for it.  Finally, we saw a pearly white break through the gums this weekend.

*The kid loves to eat real food!  So far, he has tried avocado, sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, peas, green beans, peaches, apples, bananas, pears, and oatmeal.
*He grabs, and gnaws on, everything in sight.
*He doesn't seem too interested in rolling over, but is trying to figure out crawling.  This basically involves him burying his face into the carpet, pushing his butt into the air, and flailing his legs back and forth.
*He sits up for short spurts by himself.
*His best friend is Ally (the dog).  He lights up whenever he sees or hears her, and loves feeling the texture of her fur.
*He sleeps like a rock star!  He averages about 11 hours of sleep overnight, and takes three short naps during the day.  Needless to say, mommy and daddy like this current arrangement!
*He is already very sneaky.  We try not to let him watch the television, so we'll drape a blanket over his activity mat if we're watching a show.  He sees it as a game, and twists his body towards the blanket, facing the television.  He pulls the blanket back just far enough so that we don't notice it has been moved, but enough to where he can see the magic box.
*He received a great report at his 6 month doctor's appointment.  He weighed in at 17.4 pounds (50th percentile), and measured 26.75 inches (70th percentile).  He had to have four shots, but handled them like a champ!

That pretty much sums it up.  Here are a few more recent pictures of our little guy...I can't help but show him off : )

Park Fun

Now that it's warming up outside, Joshua and I like to take walks during the day.  We tried out the baby swing a couple of weeks ago, and he LOVED it!  Here are some pictures I took of him today:

Dear Daddy...

Every time Andrew comes home from work, he asks Joshua, "What did you today?"  He usually follows up his own question with, "Did you eat, sleep, and poop?"  While Joshua does spend a majority of the day taking part in those three activities, I thought it might be fun to create a little video for Andrew, so that he could see some of Joshua's other daytime activities.

And so it begins...

Well, here I am...entering the blog world.  Last night, I was fortunate enough to meet up with some of my favorite women over dessert.  Finding ourselves in the midst of mommy-hood, conversation naturally gravitated to one thing - our kids.  The conversation went a little something like this, "Oh, I saw your daughter's pictures on Facebook, she's so cute!"  Soon after, another friend says, "And you, your son is getting so big!"  Then, one of the women is singled out - "You need to get on the pictures.  I haven't seen pictures of your kids in forever."  And then it comes... "Well, I keep everyone updated through our blog."  And one by one, each woman names off the title of their blog.  Then, I receive the stare of death when I confess that my technological fingertips have been lagging by only sending out emails rather than updating a blog (gasp!).  So, here goes...  Call it peer pressure or call it jumping on the bandwagon.  I am going to try my best to keep this thing updated for friends and family.  I hope you enjoy the little updates here and there, and that they serve as a way to keep you more in touch with our precious little blessing, Joshua.  If anything, maybe it will get our grandparents one step farther in their computer tech adventure.  I can hear them now, "First, they ask me to click on this You Tube stuff, and now they want me to subscribe to a blog?!"  I guess we'll see how it goes...
